This will be a fully organic, sustainable garden utilizing the principles of permaculture which will be incorporated into the curriculum of several of the classrooms. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the City of Los Angeles invite you to bring your gloves, garden tools, work clothing, and lets get dirty. Please bring your own water bottle.
For more information on the garden at George Washington Carver Middle School and to donate funds go to http://www.laburningman.com/carver-garden.html
Artisan Mentor:Starting this fall, we begin the mentor program. Part of the garden is also creating a sculpture garden. Each participating class will be assigned an artisan mentor (You) who will guide the students in working collaboratively on a large scale sculptural piece make out of found or recycled materials in the style of the artisan. They will have all semester to work on the piece. At the end of the school year, we will host an art gala and the pieces will be auctioned off. 100% of the proceeds from the sale will go back into the schools arts programming; thus creating the first ever fully self sustaining arts program.
